Good afternoon:
We already knew about two hearings this week on proposed congressional maps, scheduled in the Senate Local Government & Elections Committee as follows:
Mon, 11/8, 2:30 PM, South Hearing Room at the Ohio Statehouse;
Tues, 11/9, 9:30 AM, same location as above.
Three additional hearings were announced this morning, as follows.
One in the Ohio House Government Oversight Committee:
Wed, 11/10, 8:00 AM, Room 114. Testimony will be on House Bill 479. Submit to GovernmentOversightCommittee@ohiohouse.gov.
Two in the newly formed Joint Committee on Congressional Redistricting (Co-Chairs Rep. Shane Wilkin & Sen. Theresa Gavarone):
Wed, 11/10, 2:30 PM, South Hearing Room (2nd Floor), Senate Building;
Friday, 11/12, 10:30 AM, Ohio House Finance Hearing Room (Room 313).
We do not yet have details about whether or not testimony will be allowed in either of these last two hearings. The Committee co-chairs said they would send out additional information in the near future. We will pass it along to you -- and you will be able to find an updated version of this email on our new BLOG.
Many thanks to those who are showing up to testify, are submitting written testimony, or are attending the hearings wearing your Fair Districts shirts and buttons! Remember, the hearings are available to view on the Ohio Channel.
If you are looking to testify this week, a few points to remember:
Submit your testimony 24 hours in advance to the chair of the appropriate committee;
Include a witness slip. You can make a copy of this one, fill it out, download as a PDF and then email to the Committee Chair.
Many thanks for all you do,
Mia Lewis for Common Cause Ohio and Fair Districts
