![]() By Catherine Turcer, policy analyst for Common Cause Ohio On Friday, October 7, 2016, David Daley, the author of Ratf**ked: The True Story Behind the Secret Plan to Steal America’s Democracy, will explain why the most recent gerrymander was different from any in modern political history. Not generally used in polite company, "ratf**king" is a slang term for political dirty tricks. Pre-dating Urban Dictionary, "ratf**king" was first brought to public attention by Bob Woodward and Carl Berstein in their 1974 book All the President’s Men about Watergate. And gerrymandering is definitely a long-standing political dirty trick! Sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Greater Cleveland, this free opportunity to meet the author will be on Friday, October 7 at 7:00pm at the Westshore Unitarian Universalist Church, Rocky River, Ohio 44116. Daley is a graduate of Boston College and earned his master’s in journalism at the University of North Carolina. The former editor-in-chief of Salon, Daley was recently named the CEO/publisher of the Connecticut News Project including the Connecticut Mirror. He is also the digital media fellow for the Wilson Center for Humanities and the Grady School of Journalism at the University of Georgia Want to learn a little more, check out: Drawing the Line: How Redistricting Turned America from Blue to Red, by Elizabeth Kolbert in the New Yorker, June 27, 2016 Understanding Congressional Redistricting Reform: "I'ts Money Ball applied to politics," NPR's Fresh Air interview with David Daley, June 15, 2016 When Republicans Draw the Lines, They Can't Lose.
